Kenstar Oxy Fryer vs. Philips AirFryer

Every time I see new airfrying models in the market, I feel like it is a reliable tech innovation. It’s not something that will fade away in just few years.

In India, we all prefer good amount of oil or ghee in most of the delicacies. But eventually, it does make significant impact on our overall health. Hence, I think this is the best time for us to make the decision and replace the deep/shallow frying methods with beneficial airfrying methods.

Recently, Kenstar has launched its airfrying system, Oxy Fryer, for Indian customers. This new model looks quite promising as compared to other competitors. But is it really worth the praise?

Well, let’s find out by comparing it with another competitor – Philips AirFryer.

For those who don’t know about the airfryer concept –

As the name says, these devices simply make use of hot air and metallic grill to heat up the food.

If you’ve already made your mind to go for the best airfryer in India, I’d suggest you to go through the following comparison chart. It will help you understand the difference between these two kitchen gadgets.

Kenstar’s Oxy Fryer comes with Burgundy Red color whereas its competitor gives two color choices i.e. Black and White.

If you want to make a style statement, the Oxy Fryer’s color might just give the much needed refreshing touch to your kitchen. I’m not a color expert, but Philips AirFryer also looks decent with its available colors.

So, there isn’t much to choose from as far as colors are concerned.

Food Capacity

The AirFryer is capable of frying food in 2.2 litre basket. On the other hand, Oxy Fryer offers slightly bigger basket (3 litre) for frying.

It’s not a huge difference in their basket sizes. It would also not make your food more tastier, but the big sized unit (OxyFryer) will definitely consume more power in longer run.

If you are going to cook for more than 4-5 people in the family, you should take the ‘food capacity’ point into consideration. It might help reduce your power consumption and cooking time.

You don’t have to worry about the recipes for these kitchen tools. Their dedicated cookbooks are filled with hundreds of lip-smacking Indian recipes.

The best thing about these gadgets is that you will not have to modify your traditional recipes. Each and every preparation step will just be the same. The frying technique is the only thing that will make difference to your cooking process.

If you want to explore more, there are many such recipes available on several YouTube channels. For Philips AirFryer users, I have shared some recipes earlier on this blog. You can check them too.

Food Taste & Cooking Time

The air-fried food tastes good. However, it wouldn’t be wise to expect the same taste that you’d get from traditional deep fried food. There will always be some difference, and you’ll have to accept this fact.

Having said that, I won’t complain much about the taste factor. For me, the healthy food option is more important than anything else.

Talking about the cooking time, these devices are built to support food frying up to 30 minutes. This means that most of the compatible dishes get cooked in the given period of time. In case you want to air fry for more duration, you can always set the timer again as per your need. There is no limitation on repetitive frying.

Fortunately, cleaning these air-frying units is much easier than you’d expect. You can swiftly clean the remaining food particles and stains by removing the food basket.

For better cleaning, the companies have provided useful instructions in their manuals. Please do read them before heading to your kitchen sink. Also, these tools (frying basket and pan) are compatible with modern dishwashers, which I think is a great advantage in busy lifestyle.

Other Features

Hidden Handle :- The comparison can’t complete without mentioning this cool feature from Kenstar Oxy Fryer. When you think of moving these relatively big machines from one place to other, it becomes difficult to carry them in hands.

Oxy Fryer designers have provided a nice handle on the top, which helps a lot in such situations. The handle doesn’t interfere with the design and sits quietly inside the device itself.

This feature is not included in Philips AirFryer.

Power Cord Length :- When we buy new electric systems in a hurry, we tend to neglect such features. However, this negligence can cost more later on.

Philips AirFryer has very short power cord i.e. 0.8 meter in length, which is good for accessible electric sockets. But if you don’t have such socket near your platform, you might have to spend extra money on extension cable.

Kenstar’s OxyFryer has a 1.2 meter long power cord, and it’s sufficient for normal Indian kitchens.

This feature can make or break your air-frying experience, so do think about it.

Auto Shut-off :- The AirFryer and Oxy Fryer automatically stop their processing after 30 minutes of frying.

I like the auto shut-off feature. It saves food from turning into charcoal, when you’re not around.

Finally, all the equations come down to this point!

Price is probably the major deciding factor in most of our purchases, and the airfrying devices are of course not going to be exceptions.

These companies are targeting a certain section of market in India, so the prices are on higher side. Currently, Kenstar Oxy Fryer is priced at around Rs. 8000 in retail market while Philips AirFryer costs around Rs. 10,000.

Now, I don’t think I should analyze this point any further. Oxy Fryer stands ahead in the price competition too.

Brand & Warranty

Even though Oxy Fryer looks like a clear winner in this comparison, we can’t deny Philips’ brand value. It is one of the most trusted brands in India. Its products generally last for long period.

On the other hand, Kenstar isn’t as popular as its parent company Videocon. And it might take them a few more years to build the same trust in users’ mind.

The warranty of device also plays an important role while purchasing a high ticket item. Kenstar has offered 1-year warranty on its model, and AirFryer has 2-year warranty for technical issues.

So, Philips definitely scores some points here in the end.

Hi.. your comparison is quite good.. But the OXY fryer is not strong as compared to Philips air fryer by strong i mean its not sturdy…The philips air fryer is more sturdy… Thank you for the recipes.. I will surely try all of them once my Philips air fryer is delivered.. Thank you.

    • Hi Zoha,

It’s great to know that you’ve decided to go with Philips AirFryer. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed with this amazing product. Enjoy your healthy snacks!

What is the technical difference between an oxyfryer and airfryer?

    • Sorry to disappoint you, but I’m not a technical expert. Both the companies have also not shared much details regarding the technical aspects of these airfryers.

I think you’ll need to get in touch with their customer care representatives to clarify your doubts.

Other than snacks, what are recipes possible for main course, especially Indian Veg?

    • For main course, you may try making Pulaos and Biryanis in airfryers.

You can also prepare Cheese balls and Koftas for related vegetarian curries.

  • Sparsh Tyagi

I am buying a kenstar oxyfryer, as Philips airfryer have same features compared to oxyfryer.

    More weight means more sturdy.
Two years warranty means peace of mind for two years instead of one.
Price difference of Rs. 2000 gives you more reliability, sturdiness, and double warranty period.
Both products seem to be made in China. But Philips may have ensured better quality control and may last longer.

Kenstar too now comes with 2 years of warranty at the earlier price. The major benefit i noticed was its extremely easy to carry to any place than the philips and the power consumption is nominal as if you are really purchasing one of them that means you wanna eat healthy and a calorie concerned person so whether deep fried or air fried the though the calories have great difference but still you aint gonna have air fried french fries daily either. So power consumption didn’t turn out to be a great issue to choose philips over kenstar and their services are as quick as Philips nowadays. Simply call on the toll free and get your issues fixed anyways. 🙂

      • Hi Indraneel,

Kenstar still offers 1-year warranty on their Oxy Fryer lineup. You should check the ‘Terms’ section of their official website to know more about it.

Since 10 months now am using the Phillips Airfryer and I enjoy cooking food in it. Its healthy, fast to cook and easy to clean. Great recipes from various folks that encourage you to use the gadget more often. I do agree there is a bit of difference in taste but healthy cooking is better than anything else.

As a layman, I would like to know about the electricity consumption comparison between the two, and which one scores better?

    • Hi Sunita,

I’ve already mentioned these details in the Power Consumption field above. Please have a look again.

There is not much difference in both these devices as far as electricity consumption is concerned. Philips AirFryer consumes less power due to its less capacity unit.

Can we bake and grill in both the models, in the Philips one we can it says but doesn’t say anything like that for Kenstar?

    • Hi Pooja,

Kenstar Oxyfryer is capable of handling both the functions i.e. Baking and Grilling.

  • Mona

Basically they all use hot air to heat the outside of the food, right? So, to me, they are nothing but a tiny convection oven, with a small basket – why do I need to buy one? I already have a convection oven that heats upto 250 deg and has a timer too – just need a basket that allows hot air to touch the finger foods, isn’t it?

    • Vicky

The difference can be explained by an example.

In the month of June in Delhi if you stand in an open area, you’ll experience heat on your body due to direct sunlight. On the other hand if you sit on a bike, you’ll experience strong gust of hot air on your body traveling at 80 kmph. You can imagine the difference!

This is how a convection oven is different from an air fryer, which has a strong blast of hot air around the food being cooked.

Thanks so much for the comparison. I was tired of looking everywhere. We have already decided we want to buy one. But then, its so tough to decide because the lovely Kenstar is so cheap and Philips is charging an exorbitant price and then you think what the hell..

We have used Kenstar kitchen appliances and they are running great. So I think the brand is pretty good.

  • Arti

Very good description and comparisons. Comments relieved me whatever apprehensions were left. I’ll go for a Kenstar and will let you know next year..

    • Thank you for your appreciation, Arti. Enjoy the Airfryer experience!

      Waiting for your review..

I have been living in India for a couple of years and love the Philips brand. I am really looking forward to the healthier alternative.
